Innovation Awardees
About the Innovator:
Dr. Ravi Teja is an anaesthesiologist, clinician-scientist, and innovator focused on advancing perioperative care through technology. He is the creator of a novel soft electronic skin with embedded ballistocardiography, designed to transform patient monitoring into smarter, more efficient systems. An entrepreneurial researcher, he actively bridges the gap between clinical practice and real-world innovation. Recognized nationally and internationally, he has received multiple awards, including nomination for the WFSA Rising Star Award 2026, and has contributed extensively through research publications, teaching, and collaborative initiatives.
About the Innovation:
A next-generation solution to modernize operation theatres by replacing bulky, cable-based monitoring systems with a soft electronic skin. This flexible, high-sensitivity sensor enables real-time, wireless monitoring of vital parameters using advanced opto-mechanical technology. With applications in smart OTs and remote ICU setups (via smart mattresses), it offers a scalable, efficient step toward connected and intelligent healthcare systems.
About the Innovator:
Dr. Lohith Basavaraju is an anaesthesiologist, critical care specialist, and founder of Medevice Innovations Pvt Ltd, with a strong focus on medical technology and patient-centered innovation. He specializes in interventional pain management and has developed patented airway management devices aimed at improving safety and efficiency. With multiple national awards and recognitions, his work integrates Artificial Intelligence, ultrasound, and virtual reality into clinical practice. An academic leader and mentor, he actively contributes to research, innovation, and the development of affordable, impactful healthcare solutions.
About the Innovation:
The Inflatable Intubation Pillow is a compact, portable, and cost-effective airway positioning device designed to optimise patient alignment during endotracheal intubation and airway management procedures. It enables rapid attainment of the sniffing or ramped position through controlled height adjustment via inflation, thereby improving glottic visualisation and increasing first-pass intubation success.
About the Innovator:
Dr. Hemant Meena Subhash Dambale is a Professor and Head of Anaesthesiology at SMBT Medical College, Nashik. He holds an MD in Anaesthesiology from Seth G.S. Medical College & KEM Hospital, Mumbai, and has extensive experience in clinical practice and teaching. He is also an innovator, with a patent for “HD’s Whistle” and another filed for “HD’s Spinal Needle,” and is known for his leadership and expertise in anaesthesia management.
He has a strong track record in handling complex cases under both regional and general anaesthesia. His work reflects a commitment to advancing patient care through innovation and effective medical practices.
About the Innovation:
Dr. Dambale’s Whistle is a simple, cost-effective, and lifesaving airway adjunct designed to facilitate tracheal intubation, especially in low-resource, emergency, or difficult-access scenarios. By providing an audible confirmation of tracheal placement, it minimizes reliance on expensive devices like capnography and reduces delays in securing the airway. As well as by providing instant, reliable, and inexpensive confirmation of endotracheal tube placement, it has the potential to save countless lives—especially in scenarios where every second matters and advanced monitoring tools are unavailable.
About the Innovator:
Dr. Amjad is a Senior Consultant Anesthesiologist at KIMS Hospital, Bangalore, with over 18 years of experience. He completed his M.D. in Anesthesia from M.S. Ramaiah Medical College and a fellowship in Regional Anesthesia in Singapore.
